Despite fights our 'Dostana' is strong: Shatrughan Sinha on Amitabh Bachchan

They may have had a friendship which saw highs and lows, but veteran Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinhasays he shares a great rapport with megastar Amitabh Bachchanand has the right to differ with him.
Sinha, who has worked with Bachchan in films like "Bombay to Goa", "Parwana" and "Dostana", has written about his bitter-sweet but strong friendship with his co-star in "Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography".
"The experiences I've written are of our past.... If I wouldn't have mentioned, it wouldn't have been an honest biography. But that doesn't mean that I have anything against him. It was our youth, we were mesmerised by stardom...We're friends so we have the right to fight and differ too. It is democracy," Sinha told reporters at the launch of the book.
Shatrughan Sinha: My biography is honest, transparent
"We have been friends for so long... These things happen. But it doesn't mean we carry forward the fight. I just wanted to tell people that in an honest biography, apart from black and white there is grey too," the BJP MP added.
In 2007, Sinha had returned the boxes of sweet that had come from Big B's house after the wedding of Abhishek and Aishwarya, stating, if he wasn't invited then why send sweets. Bachchan had reportedly responded by saying those who were not invited were not friends to begin with.
The 70-year-old actor-politician said he holds Big B in high esteem and considers the "Paa" star personality of the millennium. "If today you ask me, I'll tell you that I hold him in high esteem. In true sense I believe he is the personality of the millennium. He is a great actor, greater star and further greater human being."
Bachchan who was present at the event, said as Sinha is younger to him, he has the right to say what he wants.

In his memoir Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography, Shatrughan Sinha revealed that due to Amitabh Bachchan, he returned the signing amount of several films. “The problem was the applause I was getting for my performances. Amitabh could see the response I was getting. That’s why he didn’t want me in some of his films.”

“During Kaala Patthar, a heroine who was known to be very friendly with him, would visit him. She would come during Dostana also but not once would he bring her out and introduce her to any of us. In showbiz, everybody knew who was visiting whom. The media would immediately know if Reena was in my make-up room. Such things can never be hidden in our world,” Shatrughan added in his biography, mentioning that Zeenat Aman or Rekha deepened the rift.

Another reason for his fallout with Amitabh, many claim, is the fact that some major films which proved to be hits in Big B’s career like Deewar, Sholay and Satte Pe Satta were first offered to Shatrughan. Though Shatrughan rejected the claims while speaking to TOI early this year, he added, “Perhaps the makers, at some point, realise that some other actor would be better for a role, or at times I couldn’t have taken a film due to date issues, which was the case with Sholay. I think the character of Jai was one of the last ones to be cast. Ramesh Sippy was very keen that I do it, but I just couldn’t accommodate the film. Such things don’t spoil relations.”

While Vijay catches criminals with the help of an informant named Tony (Pran), Ravi bails those criminals out and is employed by the villainous Daaga (Prem Chopra). Ravi admits his love for Sheetal to Vijay, who is devastated but decides to sacrifice his love for Ravi's sake. He writes a letter to Sheetal saying that they have to give up their relationship for Ravi; the letter accidentally reaches Ravi first, but he does not read it. Daaga finds out about Vijay and Sheetal's relationship through a photograph, and decides to cause trouble in Vijay and Ravi's friendship by revealing Vijay and Sheetal's relationship to Ravi.
