    Kunimasa Suzuki is the Representative Director and Chairman of Intel Japan at Intel Corporation. He is responsible for accelerating the data-centric transformation (DcX) strategy while continuing to maintain the health of our client-centric business in Japan. This market has been crucial to our success as a company and will continue to play an instrumental role as we further expand our role in computing, the internet of things, 5G, and artificial intelligence in Japan. In addition, he led efforts towards bringing innovative experiences using technology for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He is also actively promoting the creation and support of Japan’s educational environment, such as the GIGA School Program and the STEAM Lab, as well as promoting the spread of high-performance PCs that support the creator economy for the arrival of the “era of 100 million creators.”

    Prior to Intel, Suzuki held various roles over 34 years at Sony, on top of his Corporate EVP role at Sony, he has gained broad-based business executive experience through his leadership roles at Sony VAIO, Sony Computer Entertainment (PlayStation), and Sony Mobile Communications.

    Suzuki holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan.

    Akimasa Suzuki (鈴木 晶雅, Suzuki Akimasa, born 29 June 1958) is a Japanese politician who is the Mayor of Ōta, a Special ward of Tokyo, since April 2023. A former member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, Suzuki was chairman of the Special Committee on Budget and Chairman of the General Affairs Committee.

    Early life

    Suzuki was born in Shinagawa, Tokyo. He graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Omori High School and Nihon University Faculty of Law, Department of Political Science and Economics.

    Political career

    Early years

    Suzuki served as first secretary to House of Representatives member and future Tokyo GovernorShintaro Ishihara. Suzuki ran for the Ota Ward Assembly election in 1991 as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, and was elected. He was then re-elected twice.

    Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly

    In June 2001, Suzuki left the LDP to run as an independent candidate in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election, but was defeated. In April 2003, he once again ran for the Assembly's vacant seat, and was elected. Suzuki was re-elected in 2005, 2009, and the 2013 elections after re-joining the LDP, but lost in 2017. In 2020, Suzuki ran for a vacant seat in the Assembly after Yanagase Hirofumi's resignation and was elected.

    Mayor of Ōta

    In March 2023, Suzuki announced his candidacy for the Ōta Ward Mayoral election and resigned as a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly on the following month. Although Suzuki ran as an Independent, his candidacy was backed by the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito. He was successfully elected, defeating opposition-backed candidate Ai Mori. His term began on April 27, 2023.

    Sony Mobile Communications Inc. (Japanese: ソニーモバイルコミュニケーションズ株式会社) was a multinationaltelecommunications company founded on October 1, 2001, as a joint venture between Sony Corporation and Ericsson. It was originally incorporated as Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, and headquartered in London, England, until Sony acquired Ericsson's share in the venture on February 16, 2012. On April 1, 2021, Sony integrated its electronics businesses including Sony Mobile into one company called Sony Corporation.

    Prior to April 1, 2021, Sony Mobile exclusively created Android-powered smartphones under the Xperia sub-brand name; it also developed tablet computers (Sony Tablet), smartwatches (Sony SmartWatch) and fitness trackers (Sony SmartBand), alongside accessories and software for the devices.

    Sony Mobile had research and development facilities in Lund, Sweden; Beijing, China; Tokyo, Japan; and San Francisco, United States. At its peak in 2007, Sony Ericsson, Sony Mobile's predecessor, held a 9 percent global mobile phone market share making it the fourth largest vendor at the time. In 2017, Sony Mobile held less than 1% global market share but 4.8% in Europe and 16.3% in Japan.

    Origins

    Swedish company Ericsson had been making mobile cell phones since the 1980s, their first very handheld device being the Hotline Pocket introduced in 1987. In the United States, Ericsson partnered with General Electric in the early nineties as Ericsson Mobile Communications (ECS), primarily to establish a US presence and brand recognition. General Electric eventually left the joint venture.

    According to his corporate biography, he joined Sony Corporation in 1984, and was assigned to the Overseas Marketing Division, working in Saudi Arabia and the United States. In 1995, he was transferred to Sony Argentina S.A. as President, where he devoted his efforts towards expanding sales of Sony products in South America. In 1999, he was appointed General Manager, Global VAIO Direct Company, Sony, and until March 2007, contributed significantly to further expanding the VAIO business and firmly establishing it as one of Sony’s signature brands. In April 2007, he was appointed General Manager, Consumer Products Group Integrated Products and Business Strategy, Sony, and in November, General Manager, Consumer Products Group Corporate Planning Office, Sony, where he was heavily involved in the development of consumer electronics products. From April 2008 to March 2009, he served as EVP, Sony Electronics Inc. in the United States. In April 2009, Suzuki assumed the position of Deputy President, NPSG, and is now working in tandem with Kazuo Hirai in formulating strategies and business direction as well as executing various key initiatives.
