Dick Van Dyke's 4 Children: All About Christian, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth

Dick Van Dyke's legacy extends far beyond his iconic role as Bert in the Disney classic Mary Poppins. He also welcomed four children, Christian, Barry, Stacy and Carrie Beth, with late ex-wife Margie Willett, to whom he was married for 36 years.

"They all turned out great, I'm happy to say," Dick told USA Today in 2011. "Not a horse thief in the bunch."

Willett grew up with Dick in Danville, Ill., and married the actor on the radio show Bride and Groom in 1948, he told the Guardian. The couple's first son, Christian Van Dyke, arrived in 1950. He was followed by brother Barry and two sisters, Stacy and Carrie Beth. The pair split in 1984, and Dick began a relationship with Michelle Triola. Dick and Triola never married, but they lived together for over 30 years. Willett died of pancreatic cancer in 2007, and Triola died of lung cancer two years later. Dick married Arlene Silver in 2012.

All four of Dick and Willett's children made their Hollywood debuts early on in life, appearing in episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis: Murder and The New Dick Van Dyke Show, according to MeTV. "It's one way to get to see your grown kids," Dick joked to CNN in 1998. "Barry's teenage sons were on, and I had my daughter Stacy on the show, too. That's carrying nepotism to its ultimate!"

According to Barry, Dick was plenty of fun off-camera, too. "He was a terrific father," the Galactica 1980 star said in an appearance on Born Famous in 1987. "He was very much a child in a man's body and was attuned to us all the time. … He gave me great things: How to make the right choices, how to be your own person. Those things meant enough to me that I am gladly and proudly passing them on to my children."

Dick, who was named Father of the Year by the National Father's Day Committee in 1967, wasn't without his struggles, however. "I tried to be a good role model to my child

He might have a very famous father in Dick Van Dyke, but Barry Van Dyke has forged a Hollywood career all his own.

The son of the Dick Van Dyke show star has appeared on iconic shows like Wonder Woman, The A-Team, Mork & Mindy and Galactica 1980, and costarred with his dad on Diagnosis Murder for eight seasons.

Dick, star of films like Mary Poppinsand Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, was loomed large in the lives of generations of kids. The unique energy and animated performances he brought to his roles, Barry has said, were similar to how the actor was at home.

"He was a terrific father," Barry said in an appearance on Born Famous in 1987. "He was very much a child in a man's body and was attuned to us all the time. ... He gave me great things: How to make the right choices, how to be your own person. Those things meant enough to me that I am gladly and proudly passing them on to my children."

Now a grandfather, Barry is still acting — and still taking cues from his 98-year-old father. "I'd work with him any time," Barry said in 1987. "[Dick is] the best to work with, very creative. ... He set a fine example."

Here's everything to know about Dick Van Dyke’s son, Barry Van Dyke.

    Biography

Barry Van Dyke was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Dick Van Dyke and his first wife, Margie Willett (1926–2008).

Van Dyke's television debut was as Florian, a violin-toting nine-year-old in "The Talented Neighborhood" episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show alongside big brother Christian. However, his father advised him to wait before pursuing a show business career. Van Dyke later told a reporter, "He wanted me to have my childhood. He told me that if I still wanted to act after I graduated high school, then it would be OK."

Later, he worked as a gofer on his father's television series, The New Dick Van Dyke Show, which debuted in 1971 and aired until 1974. While working on that show, he secured a part as an extra.

He worked with his father again in the short-lived series The Van Dyke Show (which was canceled after six episodes in 1988) and then the long-running series Diagnosis: Murder, which aired from 1993 to 2001. In both series, he had major roles. He also wrote and directed several episodes of Diagnosis: Murder. After Diagnosis: Murder ended, Barry appeared in the Murder 101 television films, again alongside his father.

Barry Van Dyke also appeared in many other television shows over the course of his long career. His other television work includes a starring role in Galactica 1980 as Lieutenant Dillon, and appearances in Remington Steele; The Love Boat; Magn

Meet Dick Van Dyke's four children – including his famous son

Dick Van Dyke is a beloved actor whose career has spanned decades and given the world iconic characters like Bert in "Mary Poppins" – but his greatest role to date is a father to his four children.

The 99-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on December 13, welcomed sons Christian and Barry and daughters Stacy and Carrie Beth with his late ex-wife, Margie Willett, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2007.

Van Dyke and Willett were married for 36 years, separating in 1981 before officially divorcing in 1984, but despite their split, he credits her for raising "great" children.

"Margie did the work, but I will take some credit," he told The Guardian in 2016, adding that their kids turned out to be "truly admirable," despite growing up with an alcoholic father.

He added to the publication: "I tried to be a good role model to my children, but I was an alcoholic for 25 years, which inevitably impacted on family life. When I went into therapy, I realized I was repeating my father's mistakes."

Van Dyke is also a grandfather and great-grandfather of several children and admitted last year that he is "grateful" he has lived long enough to meet them all.

"I never realized when I was first having kids what I was starting. But, I'm amazed and grateful to have lived long enough to spend Father's Day with some of my kids, grandchildren AND great grandchildren!! All wonderful, non-toxic people!!" he wrote on Instagram last Father's Day.
