    In this Indian name, the name Gopalaratnam is a patronymic, and the person should be referred to by the given name, Subramaniam or his professional name Mani Ratnam.

    Gopalaratnam Subramaniam (born 2 June 1956), known professionally as Mani Ratnam, is an Indian film director, film producer and screenwriter who predominantly works in Tamil cinema and a few Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.

    He has won seven National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, six Filmfare Awards South, and numerous awards at various film festivals across the world. In 2002, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, acknowledging his contributions to film.

    Despite being born into a film family, Mani Ratnam did not develop any interest in films when he was young. Upon completion of his post graduation in management, he started his career as a consultant. He entered the film industry through the 1983 Kannada film, Pallavi Anu Pallavi. The failure of his subsequent films would mean that he would be left with fewer offers. After working in Telugu and Malayalam Cinema, he made his major breakthrough with Mouna Ragam (1986), established him as a leading filmmaker in Tamil cinema which won him his first Filmfare Best Director Award. He was the director of the critically acclaimed Nayakan (1987) and Anjali (1990), both of which qualified as India's official entry for The Academy Awards. He found success with the crime drama Thalapathi, romantic terrorism drama Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), Dil Se.. (1998), and his romantic trilogy of Mouna Ragam (1986), Alai Payuthey (2000), O Kadhal Kanmani (2015).

    Biography

    Dr. Mohan is currently a professor of Nanoengineering in the Department of Nanoengineering, at North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) leading computational nanoengineering research. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Nanoscience at Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, and is an affiliated professor with Computational Science and Engineering Graduate Program. Dr. Mohan’s research and educational activities have been continually funded over the years by several US federal agencies, defense industries and private organizations. Over the years at NCAT, building upon his core research field of mechanics and materials, Dr. Mohan has led and established new research directions and capabilities, which includes Additive Manufacturing (AM) equipment and infrastructure for hierarchical material developments and research investigations, high performance computational systems, and low length scale mechanical characterization. In addition, Dr. Mohan played a key leading role in the development and establishment of two graduate programs (Computational Science and Engineering, Nanoengineering) at North Carolina A&T State University. He is recipient of 2012 University Senior Researcher Award and 2017 Interdisciplinary Team Research Award at NCAT. Dr. Mohan has a clear understanding and vision for interdisciplinary, system of systems solutions needed for complex problems based on his educational and research upbringing and philosophy.

    Dr. Mohan has more than 140 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings to his credit to date. Prior to NCAT, he served as a composites materials expert for NASA National Center for Advanced Manufacturing at University of New Orleans; as a resident research scientist with U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL).     Srinivasa Ramanujan was a great Indian mathematician. He is counted among the greatest mathematicians of modern times. He was the second Indian to become a member of the Royal Society and the first to become a member of Trinity College in Cambridge. He died at a very young age, but he left behind many great achievements.     Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887, in the village of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, to a Brahmin family. His father worked as a sari store clerk, while his mother was a homemaker who sang at a neighboring temple. Ramanujan's intellectual growth as a youngster differed from that of other children. Ramanujan did not learn to talk until he was three years old. As a result, his parents wondered if he was mentally ill.

    However, as soon as he was enrolled in the school, everyone was astounded by his brilliance. He topped the entire district in the primary exams at 10 and went to Town High School for additional education. He succeeded in all subjects, especially mathematics. After that, he enrolled in Town High School and spent six years there.

    In nature, he was peaceful, kind, and emotional. He would take a close look at everything and begin to consider it. Ramanujan was an insatiable questioner.
