The Ascension is the sixth studio album by Nigerian singer 2face Idibia. It was released on July 21, 2014, by Hypertek Digital and 960 Music Group. The album features collaborations with Machel Montano, Vector, Bridget Kelly, Sir Victor Uwaifo, Shurwayne Winchester and Fally Ipupa, among others. It was produced by Leriq, Alton Berti, Bolji Beats, Dezay, Dnyce, Fabio Litto, Femdouble, GSol the Producer, Jay Sleek, Kodjo, Masterkraft and Rolly. 2face became the first Nigerian to appear on the Billboard World Albums chart when The Ascension debuted at number 12. Music critics gave the album largely varying reviews.
The Ascension yielded the singles "Ife Dinma", "Let Somebody Love You", "Go", and "Diaspora Woman". 960 Music Group put up outdoor billboards in ten of Lagos' most populous neighborhoods to promote the record.
Background and promotion
2face began recording the album in 2013. In a press release, 960 Music Group said the album would be released on July 21, 2014. The Ascension was eventually released in two versions: economy and premium. The premium version, which includes a 16-page insert, is available exclusively at Konga.com; the economy version is available for digital download on Spinlet, iTunes and Spotify. The album's cover art was conceptualized and designed by Janne Kukka and Mole "Tobbie" Balogun.
All of the tracks on the album were included in a 30-second clip that 2face released on July 9, 2014. On July 19, he held the album's launch party at Escape in Victoria Island, Lagos. Guests in attendance included Olamide, Tiwa Savage, and Jermaine Jackson, among others. MTV Base, in conjunction with Industry Nite, hosted another launch party on July 23, 2014.

After leaving Benin, Uwaifo continued playing music at St Gregory's College, Lagos. He was a contemporary of Segun Bucknor, and they were both among the leading Lagos high school bandleaders at the time. During school holidays and weekends, he jammed with Olaiya's All Stars band. After completing secondary school studies, he played with E.C. Arinze's highlife during late hours. Uwaifo also briefly worked with Stephen Osadebe and Fred Coker before he formed Melody Maestros in 1965. The band released "Joromi" which became a hit in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Uwaifo made history in Nigeria when he won the first golden record in Nigeria, West Africa and Africa (presented by Philips, West Africa) for his song "Joromi" in 1996.
Between 1965 and 1968, he developed the Akwete rhythm sound. In 1969, he launched a new beat called Shadow accompanied by a new dance also called shadow, a mixture of Akwete and twist. The sound was released when soul music was popular in Lagos and lasted a few years. After the launch of Shadow, the Melody Maestros went on tour of various Nigerian cities. 2face Idibia signs Sir Victor Uwaifo to HyperTek Digital
2face Idibia has announced the signing of prolific and veteran Nigerian musician Sir Victor Uwaifo to his new record label HyperTek Digital.
The announcement was made on November 30, 2013 at Club Rumours, Ikeja, Lagos. The details of the deal have not been disclosed but we know Uwaifo will be releasing new music under the label.
‘To belong to the artistes in HyperTek is my joy. I have the propensity to change. If you say it’s Jazz, I’ll play Jazz. If you say it’s Hip-Hop, I’ll play it‘, Uwaifo said at the unveiling.
‘My manager and I Efe Omorogbe, we’ve been talking about it for quite some time and we just decided to go for it. Sir Victor Uwaifo was really forthcoming and he was down with the idea and here we are today‘, 2face explains the reasons for the signing.
Uwaifo joins Pop artiste Dammy Krane and dancehall act Rocksteady as the fourth official artiste under the label. No other artistes have been announced for now.
The deal comes shortly after HyperTek rebranded and sold some shares to a parent company 960Music, founded by former Spinlet boss Eric Idahi.
Uwaifo is a Nigerian musician, writer, sculptor, and musical instrument inventor, born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria in 1941. His best-known song, is ‘Guitar Boy- a huge hit in 1966.
He also served as commissioner for arts and culture in Edo State under the government of Lucky Igbinedion.

Sir Victor Uwaifo was one of the forces to come in reckon with when it comes to Nigerian music and African music at large. Born on the 1st of March 1941, the legendary singer passed on to eternal glory on the 28th of August 2021.
Victor Uwaifo won the first gold disc in Africa for Joromi released in 1965 and further went on to win seven other gold discs in Guitar boy, Arabade, Ekassa series, and Akwete music.
Sir Victor Uwaifo was vast in knowledge and well-educated he had a B.A. Honors (first class valedictorian), Masters degree and Ph.D. in Architectural Sculpture from the University of Benin, Nigeria).
Sir Victor Uwaifo began playing the guitar when he was 12 and started music professionally in the 1960s up until his death in 2021.
