Lovato recorded "Anyone" in Montana, after setting a studio camp to write songs for an album project. She said, "At the time when I was recording it, I almost listened back and heard these lyrics as a cry for help [] I even think that I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt like I was okay, but clearly I wasn't". Four days after the track had been recorded, on July 24, , Lovato suffered an overdose and was hospitalized for two weeks. Afterwards, Lovato completed a three-month stay at a rehabilitation center in treatment for her substance abuse. Lovato is good friends with the Jonas Brothers (who also debuted in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2), and dated Joe Jonas for a time in She toured with them in and and appeared in their concert movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. She also co-produced their first album Don't Forget, and wrote and co-wrote several of the album's songs. She auditioned for a role in their television series Jonas, but did not get the part. On July 18, , Nick Jonas joined them in Los Angeles on stage at the Greek Theatre during their Summer Tour , and performed the songs "Don't Forget" and "Catch Me" with them.
