By Syneetra A. Williams
If you wondered if anything good can come out of Louisiana besides the food, the answer is a resounding YES! And his name is Nathaniel “Big Easy” Lofton. He is The Original Harlem Globetrotters, Showman — Meadowlark Lemon’s former position —. He holds the Guinness World Records for the farthest basketball hook shot (72 feet inches) and the farthest blindfolded basketball hook shot (58 feet, inches). Known by all as ‘The Big Easy,’ he loves what he does, and his captivating smile is contagious. It is his proof that he loves the game. When your heart is about something, it shows.
A former center during his college basketball days, The Big Easy migrated to Houston after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He attended a charity event to benefit the devastated families by these storms. The Globetrotters were there to entertain and support the displaced people of New Orleans. Later, he tried out for the team, and they recruited him. The rest is history. Now, he is transitioning into his 13th season, and there are no signs of stopping this 6’9” Showman who has an undying love for people everywhere, especially his loving wife, daughter, and son. “I am passionate about the youth,” said Easy. “I enjoy life and what I do.”
Back in his home state, The Big Easy readily admits that he loves New Orleans, crawfish, and the rich, loving culture that interweaves into the tapestry that is a significant part of Louisiana. That is how he acquired his stage name. He always had fond memories and comments about his home when traveling worldwide. His teammates decided to call him by the same title New Orleans is known. “While visiting cities worldwide, I would miss home so much that people started calling me ‘Big Easy,’” he said. “I always represent New Orleans wherever I go.
The Big Easy is passionate about learning. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University and wanted

Herbert "Flight Time" Lang and Nathaniel "Big Easy" Lofton are a team of Harlem Globetrotters on The Amazing Race 15, The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business, and The Amazing Race: All-Stars.
In The Amazing Race 15, the Globetrotters took advantage of their team's recognition with both locals and American travelers around the world, receiving help at several points in the race. However, Flight Time & Big Easy proved to be a strong team in their own right, using their physical abilities to their advantage, as well as generally working well together, in sharp contrast to several of their competitors. Their strong racing abilities propelled them to the final four where Big Easy, who had a tendency to struggle with mental tasks, was faced with a mental Roadblock during the penultimate leg. After over two hours of struggling to unscramble a 5-letter word, Big Easy elected to quit the task and take a four-hour penalty. This proved to be too much of a deficit for the Globetrotters to overcome, causing their elimination in 4th place.
In Unfinished Business, their charisma allowed them to work well with several other teams, most notably Kisha & Jen and Zev & Justin. However, they again tended to struggle with mental tasks, usually needing help from their allies to give them answers to bail them out of difficult situations. This strategy, along with their ability to work well together, allowed them to make it to the final three, where they ran a smart leg, being neck and neck with Kisha & Jen throu Herbert "Flight Time" LangandNathaniel "Big Easy" Loftonare a team ofHarlem Globetrotterson the fifteenth season ofThe Amazing Race, the Unfinished Business season ofThe Amazing Race, and the second all-star season ofThe Amazing Race. Herb “Flight Time Lang and Nate “Big Easy Lofton are two of the most popular racers of all-time and have used their positive attitudes and athleticisms to become household names for most fans of the show. On the All-Stars edition of the program, Flight Time and Big Easy were the sixth team to be eliminated from the show after arriving at Romes Piazza Del Duomo in last place. I caught up with the pair to chat about what went wrong. Murtz Jaffer: Hey guys how are you? Herbert “Flight Time Lang: Hey Im doing good man, how are you? MJ: Good, it has been awhile! When you first saw the teams that have been selected for All Stars who did you think your biggest competition was going to be? FT: When I first saw the teams, I thought it would be the teams with the most experience. I was thinking definitely the Cowboys and probably Luke and Margie. MJ: Were you surprised that there were so many teams there that were competing for a third time? FT: I dont know if I can say surprised. I know everybody loves the Cowboys and then I figured if we were coming back then they definitely they were as well. As for Luke and Margie, I was surprised but I cant say I was really surprised because they were a team that a lot of people really liked too. MJ: Was the complication a little harder this year or do you think that it was relatively the same all three times in terms of the other teams? Nate “Big Easy Lofton: I think the competition, you never know what it is because you dont race against anybody else, you race against yourself. No matter what the other teams are doing, you still have to get your breaks, get your luck and do what you have to do. So the competition to us is always the same because we dont know what the competition is. We are our own competition. MJ: This was your third time o
