On the 19th day of January 1938, Amos and Emma Reeves gave birth to a bundle of joy and they named her Mattie Pearl Holmes. She raised three children, Michael (Kendra) Holmes of Macon, GA.; Muriel Holmes of Jonesboro, GA.; and Jonas Holmes, Jr. who preceded her in death.

Mattie joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age.

In the early morning hours on January 22, 2025, the angels of heaven called Mattie Holmes home to be the Lord. She passed peacefully in Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, GA.; at the age of 87. Her beloved daughter Muriel Holmes and her best friend Lisa Brown were by her side when she took her last breath. She leaves to mourn her oldest brother Pete Reeves of Tampa, FL.; and oldest sister Grace Steed of Columbus, Ga.; One granddaughter: Jalisa (Joe’el) Ferguson. One grandson: Dominique Slaton. Two bonus granddaughters: Brittany (Chris) Jackson and Crystal (Travis) King. Three great granddaughters: Elise Jade Ferguson, Kennedi DeAsia Slaton and Kyndal BreAsia Slaton. One Great grandson Jordan Duntavis Slaton. Two bonus Great Granddaughters: Melody and Harmony King. Three bonus Greatgrandsons: Cadence King and Travis King III, Benjamin Jackson. 

“Mat” moved away from home at an early age and resided in Orlando Florida before moving to Buffalo N.Y. After missing her parents and siblings she decided to pack up her family and move back to Manchester, Georgia in 1976. It was beautiful to be around family. She than begin working at Goody Products where she later retired. After retirement, she loved getting in her little white Mazda and riding around the neighborhood. She loved being around cousin Sue, cousin Viola and cousin Barbara Jean sitting in the yard cooking those skins. She also loved sitting on the porch with her niece Greta Weaver and her family until she couldn’t get down that hill anymore. Brooke Christa Shields (born May 31, 1965) is an American actress. A child model starting at the age of 11 months, Shields gained widespread notoriety at age 12 for her leading role in Louis Malle's film Pretty Baby (1978), in which she appeared in nude scenes shot when she was 11 years old. She continued to model into her late teenage years and starred in several dramas in the 1980s, including The Blue Lagoon (1980), and Franco Zeffirelli's Endless Love (1981).

Early life and family background

Shields was born in Manhattan, New York City, on May 31, 1965, the daughter of actress and model Teri Shields (née Schmon) and businessman Francis Alexander Shields. Her mother was of English, German, Scotch-Irish, and Welsh descent, while her father had English, French, Irish, and Italian ancestry.

According to research by William Addams Reitwiesner, Shields has ancestral links with a number of noble families from Italy, in particular from Genoa and Rome. These are namely (in chronological order of descent from 1355 to 1965) the Gattilusi-Palaiologos-Savoy, Grimaldi, Imperiali, Carafa, Doria, Doria-Pamphili-Landi, Chigi-Albani, and Torlonia dynasties.^[8
