Udas is a journalist who has worked as the Delhi-based correspondent for American media giant CNN International. She covered stories and key development in areas of politics, economics, social, environmental and general interest stories. Associated with CNN since 2001 to 2017 as per her LinkedIn profile, she was elevated to Delhi-based correspondent in 2013. Since 2018, she is the founder and executive director at The Lumbini Museum.

She has reportedly covered big stories like the Delhi ‘gangrape’ case, Bangladesh garment factory collapse, Malaysian airlines crash and Commonwealth corruption scandal. Sumnima Udas’ father Bhim Udas is a diplomat who is a former Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar. She has lived in as many as 10 countries during her growing up years. She pursued her bachelors’ degree in Virginia’s Washington Lee University in US before getting her masters’ education from Oxford University.

Former President of the Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kathmandu on Monday.
Gandhi landed in Kathmandu on a Vistara Airlines flight at 4:40 pm. He was accompanied at Kathmandu airport by three others, two security sources confirmed.
Gandhi and his friends are staying at Kathmandu Marriott Hotel in Naxal, the sources added.
Gandhi is in Kathmandu to attend the wedding of his Nepali friend Sumnima Udas.
“We had extended an invitation to Gandhi to attend the wedding of my daughter,” said Bhim Udas, Sumnima’s father who also served as a Nepali Ambassador to Myanmar.
Sumnima, a former CNN correspondent, is getting married to Nima Martin Sherpa.
The marriage function is planned for Tuesday and a reception will be held on May 5 at Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bauddha, Bhim, the bride’s father, told the Post.
Some other Indian VVIPs have also arrived in Kathmandu for the wedding, they said.
Earlier, in August 2018, Gandhi had visited Kathmandu on his way to Kailash Mansarovar, a famous pilgrimage site in the Tibet Autonomous Region in China.
It is immediately not known whether Gandhi will hold political meetings during his stay in Kathmandu.

Sumnima Udas is a correspondent based in Delhi for CNN International. She is in charge of covering key stories and issues in environmental, social, economic and politics from India. It was recounting about the courageous struggle of the young victim of gang rape and how she was fighting for her life. She also reported about other types of discrimination that affects women like female foeticide, domestic violence and sexual assault victims that waited for many years to get the justice.
Sumnima Udas had been given the Prize of Journalist of the Year at the inaugural Women’s Empowerment Journalism Award in 2014. It was because of the sensitive reporting about gender issues. She was a part of a team that was given Cine Golden Eagle Award of 2012 because she reported about slavery that takes place in Indian Villages.
