    From Savarkundla to Washington DC

Natwar 'Nat' Gandhi, 72, the man who recently gave his resignation as chief financial officer (CFO) of Washington DC after two successful terms, has chosen to start new innings with literature in company of his would-be-wife PannaNayak, a Gujarati litterateur. Gandhi traces his roots as he started off as an errand boy in Mumbai and scaled one height after another to reach to the pinnacle of success. He speaks about his humble beginnings and people close to his heart.
    Savarkundla

The town had only one library where newspapers from cities like Ahmedabad and Mumbai came one day later. Gandhi became a voracious reader at a young age and had leafed through almost all the books in the library as he was introduced to writers like Ishwar Petlikar. The books and articles sowed the seeds of a future writer and poet. The lack of job opportunities drove his father to send young Natwar to Mumbai for employment, with a quiet word that he would have to take care of his siblings.

However, the harsh realities of life soon hit him as he put up with the family of his elder sister and brother-in-law at Girgaum and landed up a job at Mulji Jetha Market as an errand boy for a firm. The only respite from the dull life was the opportunity to see and meet the literary figures he had read and heard about.
A change came in the form of a relative, Ratibhai, who saw talent in him and encouraged him to study for better opportunities. He shifted to a community hostel as his education in commerce at Sydenham College began. Young Natwar could never muster enough courage to speak to fellow students, who c
