On How it all began in her Hometown of Torreón, Mexico and the power of asking for what you need and want

When I was 11, I came to my parents and told them that I wanted to be an actor and that I wanted to go to New York—they thought I was kidding—no one in my family was in the business. Every year, I just kept telling my parents the same thing and at some point I think they thought that I would move on and want to be something else. I never forgot; my last year in high school, I started looking for academies in New York. The American Musical and Dramatic Academy called me and said that they were having private auditions in Mexico City and Monterrey. I asked my parents if I could go and they agreed but said that I probably wouldn’t get in and that I’d stay in Mexico and have a normal career because they didn’t have the money to pay for me to go to New York. So my mom took me to the audition and it went great; I was so happy and excited. A month later, I got a letter that I was accepted and they offered me a scholarship. I was so happy, I cried. I told my parents but they said the scholarship wasn’t enough money. I asked them, what if I can find someone who can pay for it? My mom said, yes, if you can find someone to pay half then they would pay the other half. At that point I was 17, who was going to pay for a girl to go to New York to study acting? We shook

    BIOGRAPHY
Cristina Rodríguez Lozano, better known as Cristina Rodlo , is a Mexican actress, born in Torreón, Coahuila. She has two brothers and is the only one in her family who is dedicated to the world of acting and entertainment. At age 11 she took her first theater class in Torreón and, when she left it, she ran to tell her parents that she wanted to dedicate herself to that forever. “Every year I told them ‘I’m going to be an actress and I’m going to go to the United States to work’ but I was still a girl and they didn’t believe me, obviously,” Cristina said in an interview for Sensacine México . That first class consisted of breathing exercises, something that Cristina turned into a tool for her work to date: “After that class everything was very clear.”

Although her parents did not take her desire to be a professional actress very seriously, the idea never left her mind, but living in Torreón complicated things because there are not many opportunities to form a professional career in acting. School for Cristina was a bittersweet feeling, in primary school she had almost no friends because her tastes were inclined towards those that were considered, at that time, for men, making her look like a strange girl to her classmates. “However, in high school you turn everything around. That’s when I started making more friends,” she shared.

Every day Cristina wondered how she was going to achieve her move to the United States. Her parents were afraid of her daughter’s decision, even though they always supported her. “There was no one in the family who was dedicated to this, it wasn’t that they didn’t want to support me, they were just afraid.” Everything changed when, shortly after finishing high scho
