Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has revealed that her son, Maddox, has followed in her footsteps and trained to be a pilot.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 49-year-old spoke about the fallback careers she had considered in the past and confirmed that she was studying to become a funeral director before she started acting.

At one point, Jimmy, 50, asked her: 'Is it true that you considered becoming a pilot?' to which she replied: 'Yes, I'm a pilot,' before mentioning her 23-year-old son, whom she adopted in March 2002 when he was seven months old.

'And my son Maddox is training to be a pilot too,' she said, before adding: 'He, actually, he is a pilot now.' 

Jimmy then asked: 'Of planes, or helicopters, or do they both count the same?' as Angelina explained: 'No, they are different... some of the licenses are the same.'

The TV host then commented: 'So you could fly a plane right now? If we had to just get out of here together?' as Angelina replied: 'I got you!'

Elsewhere in the interview, Jimmy mentioned that Angelina worked with her daughter, Vivienne, on the Broadway production The Outsiders and asked her: 'Do any of your kids want to be on camera or behind the camera?'

The Girl, Interrupted actress replied: 'My kids, I think some of them off-camera, behind the scenes, but they really, really want to be - especially Shiloh - would really like to be private, just private. Not photographed, not on the thing, her most of all would like privacy.'

Jimmy then said: 'Yeah it just must get so tricky because everybody's so famous... around them,' as Angelina reminded him: '

Angelina adopted the adorable boy from a Cambodian orphanage, and she insists he never loses touch with his heritage. And it seems the young girls in his birth country have certainly kept him in mind!

Now 14 with a history of cool haircuts and his impressive command of three languages – English, French, and his native Khmer – not to mention movie-star parents in Ange and Brad Pitt, it’s no wonder that the teenagers of Cambodia hold him in high regard.

When approached by Woman’s Day online, teenagers in the central Cambodian city of Siem Reap, where Maddox is staying with his mother while she films her latest movie, First They Killed my Father were left nonplussed by pictures of western heartthrobs.

Images of Justin Bieber, Harry Styles and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe meant nothing to them, and even Prince Harry only gained a flicker of recognition.

However, once they were shown Maddox, all the girls’ eyes lit up.

“I know him, he’s Angelina Jolie’s son! He has beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile,” says 14-year-old Chan Tha.

“When I grow up I would love to marry him, because he is well educated. I think he will be a movie star when he gets older.”

Heng Limat, 16, liked the fact Maddox was so good at languages, but said, “I would like him to learn Chinese, that’s the best language to be able to speak.” Heng tells us she’s hoping to run into Maddox while he’s staying in her hometown.

“I don’t know what I would say to him!” she says shyly. “His hair is really modern and cool, I like it and he looks very handsome. Many girls in Cambodia like him, and he does good work [for charity].”
