Miguel Jontel Pimentel (born October 23, 1985) is an American singer and songwriter who specializes in contemporary and alternative R&B. Raised in San Pedro, California, he began pursuing a music career at age thirteen. After signing to Jive Records in 2007, Miguel released his debut studio album, All I Want Is You, in November 2010. Although it was underpromoted upon its release, the album became a sleeper hit and helped Miguel garner commercial standing. The album’s second single, "Sure Thing" reached further success in 2023, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ultimately becoming his most commercially successful song to date.

After Jive's dissolution in 2011, he moved to RCA Records and released his second studio album, Kaleidoscope Dream (2012) to continued success, spawning the hit single "Adorn." His third and fourth albums, Wildheart (2015) and War & Leisure (2017) further experimented with psychedelic and alternative influences; the former peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 while latter contained the single "Sky Walker" (featuring Travis Scott), which received triple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Miguel incorporates R&B, funk, hip hop, pop, rock and electronic styles into his music, and has been compared to vocalists Babyface and Prince.

Early life

Miguel Jontel Pimentel was born on October 23, 1985, and raised in San Pedro, California. He is one of two sons of an African American mother and a Mexican-American father. Tremaine Aldon Neverson (born November 28, 1984 in Petersburg, Virginia, USA), better known by his stage name Trey Songz, is a Grammy award nominated American singer, producer and actor. After releasing many mixtapes under the name Prince of Virginia he signed to Atlantic Records in 2005 and released his debut album I Gotta Make It. His second album, Trey Day, was released in 2007 and earned him a Grammy nomination. His latest album, Ready, was released in September 2009 and debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. His forth album 'Passion, Pain & Pleasure', was released on September 14, 2010. His fifth album entitled Chapter V was released on August 21, 2012. He also performs under the alias Trigga when he raps and is known as Songz 00711 while performing in the group Ocean's 7.

Songz was born Tremaine Aldon Neverson on November 28, 1984, in Petersburg, Virginia. Raised a military brat, he recognized his vocal abilities at the age of 14. Reluctant to sing, he began performing with encouragement by friends and family. Record producer Troy Taylor discovered Songz during a talent show, which led him to a record contract with Atlantic Records. After graduating from high school, Songz moved to New Jersey to begin his music career.

2004–2006: I Gotta Make It
While recording his debut album, Songz released mixtapes under the alias Prince of Virginia. He made an “answer track” to R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet”, entitled “Open the Closet”.His debut album, I Gotta Make It was released in July 2005 by Atlantic Records. It debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200, domestically selling over 10,000 copies in its first week of sales. Songz’s debut album yielded the singles Gotta Make It, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87, and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at numbber 21, becoming his first Top 40 R&B hit. Another single, Gotta Go, peaked at number 67 on the Hot 100 and on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, at number 99.

2007–2008: Tre

If I would ask you what you think it’s like being a recording artist. One of the first things that come to mind probably would be about that Luxury Lifestyle.

The money, the fame, the fortune.

Fast cars, million dollar mansions and sold-out shows in stadiums filled with 50,000 people.

And that’s perfectly normal since that is the picture painted by the popular artists who are your motivation and inspiration.

But, not many of these artists tell you about their daily struggles. The pressure of delivering quality music album after album.

The hard work they’ve put in over the years. And the long road they’ve travelled to end up where they are today.

Being an established artist comes with a high-level of stress and you’re constantly working under pressure.

Okay, hold-up!

I’m not trying to demotivate you. I’m just saying that being an artist comes with certain responsibilities and continuously putting in, effort and hard work.
